Pakistan coffeeshop names beverages after key South Asian leaders
| |
ISLAMABAD : A coffee shop in the Pakistani capital, venue of the ongoing SAARC summit, has invited India's Prime Minister to visit and enjoy a cup of coffee named in his honour.
With interesting blends named after key South Asian leaders, it is literally "coffee diplomacy" at its best.
From the exterior, the Civil Junction Coffee shop looks nothing out of the ordinary, but a closer look at its menu reveals it is by no means ordinary.
Customers have been enjoying the smooth taste of the old and poetical blend of coffee also called 'Vajpayee's cup of coffee' for over a year now.
Further down the menu, you will find another interesting name - 'Musharraf's Guesspresso'.
This is a rich dark espresso that the owner says is an "intensely mature khaki" cup, with a strong aftertaste.
Both the blends are a big draw among Islamabad's youth and students.
"I really enjoyed 'Vajpayee's Cup of Coffee'," said one customer.
Another laughingly said: "The Musharraf one is better than the Vajpayee one."
The coffee shop owner is a man on a mission and he says these names are not just to amuse customers.
"The idea behind naming the menu in this way is because everyone will read the menu. So if you have a message, or have something to say, such as certain political issues, then there is nothing better than a menu to help spread those messages," said manager Arshad Bhatti.
An interesting way to talk politics indeed, but still in the end, no matter what he is trying to say with his names, it would really depend on an individual's taste and how he decides to interpret the poetical blend of his cup of coffee. - CNA
